“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another.”
~ Hebrews 10:24-25
Should I Join a Growth Group?
• Are there parts of the Bible you find difficult to understand?
• Do you ever feel like you are facing life’s challenges alone?
• Do you struggle applying what you hear on a Sunday to your everyday life?
• Have you wanted to get more connected at New Life but are not sure how?
If the answer to any of these questions (or any question like them) is “YES”, then joining a Growth Group is for you!
WHAT is a Growth Group?
Growth Groups are groups of people who meet once a week for a set number of weeks to:
• Care for one another
The aim is to open up and share our lives with one another.
• Explore and apply God’s Word together
Growth Groups are centered around the text and message of the previous Sunday’s sermon.
•Pray together
God has given us the opportunity to cast our cares on Him…let’s do it together!
WHY should I join a Growth Group?
Sometimes we are told that our faith is just between us and God. Even though we attend church, serve in the church, read our Bible and pray, we are still missing out on an essential aspect of our Christian walk — community.
Your Growth Group is a great way to give and receive encouragement and motivation as we follow Jesus.
In each case, make sure you indicate your availability so we can find a group for you and let you know. Also, if you have a particular group you wish to join please indicate that as well.
WHAT will I gain?
Do you ever feel like you don’t know how to apply what you are learning in church?
Preaching is a good method for imparting knowledge, but not as effective for practical application. In Growth Groups, you can ask questions, participate in a discussion of the text, and hear others share insights and illustrations of the truth you are trying to grasp. Growth Groups help us apply what we learn together.
Do you need some help getting connected with others at church?
The greatest benefit of small groups is the close relationships that develop. It is an encouragement in this chaotic world to be able to share joys, sorrows, and victories together. You discover that your needs are not unique and others have lived through similar ones. Maybe you have lived through a difficult season and are just the person to help someone else. We need each other! God never intended for us to be alone in the Christian life.
Do you feel uncomfortable praying?
Praying is difficult, let alone praying out loud! In your Growth Group, you learn how prayer is simply having a conversation together with God. No one is pressured to pray, but as you become comfortable, you begin to appreciate the power of corporate prayer. By praying together, relationships are strengthened with God and with one another. You soon find the prayer support of your Growth Group is invaluable.
Are you facing struggles in your life alone?
Growth Groups provide support in times of crisis, change, and stress. Knowing there are people who really care about you during difficult times is powerful! This brings you a sense of stability and security knowing there are people who are committed to standing with you.
Can you worship God ANY day of the week?
Worship happens whenever we value or treasure God — and that happens in our Growth Groups as we honor God by studying His Word and praying together.
Do you feel as if you have individual needs that aren’t being met?
The book of Acts is clear about how God intends His church to be place where His children’s needs are met Growth Groups provide a caring environment where we can support each other in practical and spiritual ways.
